Hey, folks! I’m off to Iceland! Four years ago I was sitting at an airport gate waiting for my flight to Ottawa when a couple of gates over they announced boarding for a flight to Reykjavik … and it captured my imagination. I’ve been thinking of it ever since.
So, today I’m sitting in the airport waiting for my flight to JFK in New York. There I transfer to Icelandair for my overnight flight to Iceland.
Check out the Friday weather report. Snow and more snow. And a bit of rain mixed in. Temps hover at freezing, so certainly not Ottawa-cold. Note that temps on the iPhone screen capture to the left are F. In deciding whether to show F or C, I decided that the Canadian readers were more able to convert from F, than Americans from C. Apologies for my cultural generalizations.
I can’t imagine a sunrise of 10:03 am. The week’s forecast is currently showing both Monday and Tuesday as sunny … crossing my fingers for a clear night and a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis. UPDATE … current forecast is showing SOME sun EVERY day for the next 8 days. Best. News. Ever. I have been following Reykjavik weather for two months now and have seen only a handful of days with sun. I may luck out.
I will be in Iceland for eight days, spending three days in the capital city of Reykjavik (population approx 120,000), three days about an hour outside of Reykjavik in (a hotel in) the middle of a lava field, and two days at the renowned Blue Lagoon. I hope to post stories and photos all week. Check back, or subscribe for alerts, if you want to hear more. Thanks for stopping by. — Linda

November 17, 2017 at 6:55 pmWhoa, the sun won’t rise until 10 in the morning? That will be different! And when will it set? Hopefully you’ll get a few sunny hours during your short days. But I guess you can do without sun if you get to see the northern lights! Cool!!

November 18, 2017 at 7:51 amDropped my bag at the hotel at 9 am and went in search of breakfast. I thought maybe it would be like a regular Saturday morning, just dark. But no; the streets were empty. It felt like 4 am. It was kinda creepy.
